<aside> 💡 CFox was a production brand by luthier Charles Fox in the 1990s and 2000s for preimuim grade handmade acoustic guitars. Between 1997 and 2001 CFox was a corporate subsidiary of a major musical instrument manufacturer. From 2001 onwards CFox became a wholly independent workshop again.

Our guide and database is really the work of many individuals who have kindly sent in information and given us permission to amalgamate the results of their toil into as comprehensive a guide/database/registry as possible. We have of course added information from our own experience and research to further improve the existing knowledge on hand.

I have historical data going back to 2000 and can provide a professional appraisal service for insurance etc.
This is priced at USD$30. I ask for:
- Front and back photos of the instrument (required). Additional photos can be uploaded in order to include detailed photos if necessary. Please limit file size to 25MB.
- Serial and model number
- Description of modifications, repairs and other issues not apparent from photos
- Email address
- Paypal payment is accepted.

Preamble

Charles Fox and CFox Guitars: a brief timeline....

1989/90: Scott Baxendale sells the company to John Kinsey and Bob Casey
1966: Charles Fox undertakes undergraduate work at the Art Institute of Chicago and completed his postgraduate work at Northwestern University.
1968: Charles Fox began building guitars in 1968
Late ‘70s and early ‘80s: Foxs’ GRD GUITARS were among the first instruments to define the market for high end electric guitars.
1973: Fox founded the first school for guitar builders in North America, the Guitar Research and Design Center
1990’s: CFox guitars founded.

Rumoured owners:

CFox was started as a high end prestige line with a corporate partner. The often repeated rumour this was the Lee family of Hong Kong (owners of the Tom Lee Music Stores in that city and in Vancouver, British Columbia,) who arranged the financing, came to a licensing agreement with Mr. Fox and put him in charge of the operation.
